About Florida Public Utilities Company
History
Since 1924, Florida Public Utilities Company has been providing energy to homes and businesses throughout Florida. We have served approximately 115,000 customers throughout the years.
Parent company, Chesapeake Utilities Corporation acquired Florida Public Utilities in 2009.
In August 2010, Florida Public Utilities purchased the natural gas sector of Indiantown Gas Company. We now serve approximately 700 residential customers and numerous commercial customers in the Indiantown, Florida area.
In December 2011, we purchased Crescent Propane so we could better serve our customers needing propane service in Newberry, Florida and surrounding areas.
The last of Florida Public Utilities’ propane acquisitions, Barefoot Bay, was purchased in February 2012.
On August 21, 2012, Florida Public Utilities was given the opportunity to provide gas distribution services within the City of Okeechobee by becoming a non-exclusive franchise. This agreement will provide natural gas service to residential and commercial customers.
